A refreshing break after 2 years of restrictions.
Recommend: dramatic Dumbarton Castle but be aware, 500+ steps to the top. Rosneath peninsula from Cove car park you can see right the way to Bute and Arran. Serene landscape around Milarochy Bay on the far side of Loch Lomond (with spotless toilets too!).

Moving on to Bute for our next week, hoping to go up to Rest and Be Thankful if road open, and Arkinglas Arboretum (Champion trees), and round to the ferry at Colintrave.

Only one lazy wet day, spent reading, paint and writing (Dennis is an author). We’ve had a fun week.

Had a great stay with very mixed weather. Had everything we needed in the Lodge, could not have asked for more.
Recommend eating out at The Riverhill Courtyard in Helensburgh. We enjoyed many walks including Conic Hill, also liked The Hill House and Inveraray Castle. Luss is a beautiful village busy by day but we had the beach and the jetty to ourselves in the evening. Callandar and the Crag walk including a visit to the falls was also memorable.

Thank you

What a brilliant cottage (Glenfruin Lodge) and a fab base for a week full of activities. I have to say what a lovely clean cottage this is and such friendly welcome.

A brilliant week’s weather, even the odd bit of sunshine which is always a bonus. Our first family holiday with our nearly 1 year old, and what a holiday it’s been. Thank you for the stay. If your looking for a place to eat not too far away, Balloch House Hotel is a much recommended place.

Thanks again, we may see you again soon.

As always a fabulous stay with wonderful hosts Alison & Craig
The Lodge was immaculate and comfortable and we all had a great time.

Conic Hill was a great trip with wonderful views over the loch and the boys
loved the trip from Balmaha to the island where they swam from the beach.

We will be back !!

We have had a superb holiday in this wonderful part of the world and with the most amazing weather!

Glenfruin Lodge was great, such a relaxing retreat after a days exploring and everything you need. I have to say we both have not slept better than here, the bed is so comfortable and such peaceful surroundings.

We walked to Luss on Sunday and got a taxi back from the hotel where we had lunch. On Monday, we cycled around Loch Katrine, such glorious views. Tuesday we drove to Falloch Falls, Tyndrum and shopped in The Green Welly Shop and then onto Glencoe and on the way back had lunch at the Falls of Dochart.

Wednesday and Thursday we drove to Oban, did the whisky distillery which was fab and then got the ferry to Isle of Mull and spent a night at Tobermory. Friday we went to Inverary, visited the castle and had lunch at the George hotel.

Thankyou Alison & Craig for being great hosts and for getting our washing in!!

Thank you once again Craig & Alison. This is our 3rd stay in Crosskeys Cottage with you and everything, once again, was perfect.

We did so many different things this year. We have walked over 35 miles in the 2 weeks, including Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh (1,000ft). Conic hill at Balmaha and 2 local walks from the Hill House in Helensburgh.

Other highlights were Ardkinglas Woodland walk, a ferry from Luss to Inchacailloch Island, a meal at Loch Fyne restaurant, Dumbarton Castle and a ferry across to Inchmurrin Island to dine at the restaurant is worth doing. It is only 1.5 miles from here by foot! the ferry crossing is lovely.

Other good eating places are fish & chips and La Barca Tapas Bar in Helensburgh and Princess Rose Thai restaurant in Balloch. Oh we nearly forgot Blair Drummond safari park was a great day out too and to top it all only 1 day of rain in 2 weeks!

We will be back,
